The physical world is facing lots of issues today due to various activities of human beings. These environmental issues are directly related to various laws of physics. Some of the laws indicate that fossil fuels are not 100% efficient, and there are various technologies that can enhance the overall performance of these fuels.
There has been lots of discussion regarding the relationship between environment and its social issues and physics and its application. Several environmentalists are trying to find out how sensor developments, management and storage of radioactive materials, energy conservation and energy saving developments are affecting the environment.
What all problems are we going to face in the future due to the use of non-renewable sources of energy, whether renewable forms of energy can make our life better or not, what are their physical constraints in the environment, are some other points extensively discussed worldwide. Hence, it’s very important for us to understand how physics is related to the environmental problems and deals with them.
Why is the study of Earth’s environment important?
The environment we live in is called the natural world. But with nuclear bombs, spacecraft, toxic chemicals and other human activities the natural world is no more ‘natural’ in any sense. Then why is the study of Earth’s environment so important?
Well, then let me tell you that we, the human beings, still live in the environment of planet Earth and these humans are foremost criteria. Whatever is happening to the planet has got the direct effect on us. Even if you are not bothered about animals, plants and other species of the environment, but for the existence of human beings the study of an environment is so important.
How does physics help us to study the environment?
There are various ways in which physics helps us to study the environment. But here we are going to discuss only the important ones.
- Remote Sensing Equipment: With remote sensing equipment measurements can be taken from a long distance, usually from satellites or aircraft in space. Photography from the space can even be counted as remote sensing. By bouncing the laser light off Earth’s atmosphere, a lot of data can easily be gathered. This helps us to find the depth if seabeds or height of lands or even speed and directions of rivers and streams.
- Remote Sensing Satellite: With the help of infrared satellites we can directly measure the heat produced by the Earth. We can also measure the size and thickness of the ice sheets on the Earth’s surface every year.
- Spectroscopy: This is an amazing device which helps us to know about the gases that are present in different layers of the atmosphere. We can also get to know the approximate age of a dead tree.
- Fluid Dynamics: This physics principle helps us to explain and predict what happens in the seas and atmosphere. Using this physics principle of pressure, density and temperature we can easily explain why the seas and rivers move the way they do. Weather can also be appropriately predicted by this principle.
These are only a few examples. Physics principles and their relation to the environment is a huge concept.
Raising Earth-Friendly Children’s: Parenting Goals
Childhood is the best time to form good habits as the mind is fresh and impressionable. This is the reason why it is easier to teach new things to children as opposed to adults. So are you making use of the initial years of your children to instill good values and healthy habits in them that will make them responsible and sensible citizens? Read the complete article to find out the tricks of raising eco-friendly children’s.
Engaging and fun ways of raising eco-conscious children
Here are some great ways to teach kids to made eco-friendly choices and switch to sustainable living.
Start with educating the beautiful mind
Before incorporating healthy habits in your daily routine it is essential that you make your children understand why it is important?
Make them watch all the good stuff
You have to approach an individual in a way that works best for the person. Lecturing a young kid on environmental issues might not be a great help as the kid would not be able to relate. Children love watching the cartoon and you can make them watch educational videos involving cartoon characters that highlight the positive effects of preserving our environment. Feed those young minds with all kinds of good things in a way that makes learning fun for them.
Spend time outdoors
An ideal way to commence your kid’s eco-conscious journey is to make her/him develop deep love and respect for nature. Instead of keeping her/him busy with tuitions and gadgets take him outdoors here he can associate with other children and have fun. Engage in outdoor activities like camping, hiking, fishing, swimming, etc to help her/him adopt habits for conserving the environment.
Adults who throw garbage in public places or do not wash their hands before eating are the ones who have not been taught the earnestness of remaining clean as a child. If your child learns that littering is an ill-practice, he or she will never do it. Make them clean their own room after they play and wash their own dishes so that they do not expect others to perform those tasks for them.
Teach kids to conserve food and water
Throwing away food is an ill-practice and half of the adults do not realize it. The reason behind this is the lack of proper upbringing. Educate your child early on hunger issues and the scarcity of potable water prevalent worldwide. It is inhuman to waste excess water while showering, brushing teeth and cleaning clothes. Similarly, there should be certain dining rules at every home prohibiting the children from throwing away food.
Love for animals
Caring for the environment does not mean caring for plants only. Explain to your kids that plants, animals and natural resources are all part of the ecosystem. One way of raising eco-friendly children’s with a soft-corner for other living organisms is by bringing home a pet- be it a fish, a cat, or a dog. After that, involve them in activities that include taking care of the family pet like feeding the dog, taking it out for a walk, and playing with it. Spending time with a faithful and friendly dog from a young age will definitely make your child a better and kinder human being.
Gardening is a great hobby, one that has no negative side effects. Practice sustainable gardening with your little ones in your yard, balcony, or rooftop. Planting saplings and watching them grow to help us appreciate nature and count on our blessings. Using bio-degradable wastes as natural fertilizers for plants will not just facilitate the growth of veggies they plant but also let them enjoy the recycling of products.
Planting and protecting trees
With global warming being a potential threat at present, we need to plant millions of trees worldwide to cool down our planet. So, your child needs to know how important trees are for maintaining the ecological balance. So, plant trees together on special occasions such as birthdays and Earth Day.
These are just a few ways of raising eco-friendly children’s who care about their surroundings. Your goal should be to teach important life lessons through fun activities.
Environmental Science: Ways to Help Nature to Fight the Negative Effects of Climate Change
“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Have you ever wondered what environmental science is and how it relates to the study of the natural environment? And, can the study of the environment lead to ensure that the negative impacts of climate change do not destroy the world we live in?
There are many reasons why the world is in its current state. There are global geopolitical conflicts, socio-economic challenges, and health epidemics such as the latest Coronavirus outbreak. Arising out of these challenges, the questions that beg are:
- What percentage of the geopolitical conflicts, socio-economic problems, and the COVID-19 epidemic can be directly, and indirectly, attributed to the negatives of climate change?
- And, can we help Mother Nature fight the adverse effects of climate change; thereby, reducing the number of global conflicts, economic challenges, and health epidemics?
Let’s start by looking at a concise definition of environmental science. Once we understand this concept, then we can consider possible answers to the two questions mentioned above.
Environmental science: A succinct definition
According to the environmentalscience website, environmental science is described as the “study of the effects of natural and unnatural processes, and interactions of the physical components of the planet on the environment.”
In other words, it is the scientific study of the interactions between the different physical components that make up the earth or the planet. And, what should be noted is that this definition includes humankind and their activities, constructive or destructive.
The negative impact of climate change on the world
The best way to describe this point is to look at an example that is currently taking place:
One of the world’s biggest challenges in Africa, parts of Asia, and the Middle East is the shortage of water due to drought conditions. According to the article titled, “Water Wars: Ethiopia and Kenya”, “water scarcity in East Africa is fuelling conflict and thwarting development while growing in step with local populations and rising global temperatures.”
The authors of this article, Sarah Stuteville, Alex Stonehill, Jessica Partnow, and Earnest Waititu, go onto state that even though the industrialized nations are fundamentally responsible for global warming, “its effects are being felt… in less developed regions of the world such as East Africa.”
Succinctly stated, the shortage of water is attributed to the warmer ocean temperatures which are causing extended dry seasons or even drought conditions on the plans of Eastern Kenya and Ethiopia, directly leading to tribal conflicts over the scarce water sources that are available.
Not only are their tribal conflicts over water sources, but agricultural crops cannot grow, resulting in famine conditions, leaving the local people and animals starving.
Can Mother Nature restore herself?
The last question that needs to be responded to is: “Can we help nature fight the negative effects of climate change on her own?”
One of the simplest ways of helping nature reverse the effects of global warming is to drastically and immediately reduce the global greenhouse gas levels. However, this seems to be a case of “easier said than done.” The biggest global economies like the United States of America seem to lack the political will to commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions within a predetermined timeframe.
Donald Trump, the forty-fifth president of the USA, withdrew from the 2015 Paris Agreement on 1 June 2017. Essentially, his raison d’etre for this decision is that continuing to participate in the Paris Accord would cost the US $3 trillion (USD) as well as 6.5 million lost jobs. And, he ended the carbon reduction implementation targets instituted by Barak Obama. In summary, Trump has prioritized the US economy over the rest of the world and the commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
Thus, it is safe to conclude that Mother Nature cannot heal herself if we do not play our part by reducing greenhouse gasses, climate change, and global warming. The onus is on humankind to set the process into motion!
Environment Science for Kids – A Blessing for Future Generation is
The development of children’s views of nature starts developing at a very young age. So the subject Environmental science for kids should be taught to them from a very young age. Kids generally admire the things around them and imitate different attitudes and actions of the adults or towards living things. It may be a jar filled with worms, butterfly eggs, tadpoles or bugs.
The eyes of young children light up when the teacher brings living things into the classroom. If but teacher drink living thing into the classroom then the children learn about nature more specifically and they get to see e the real things and not just fill up the worksheets about nature.
Once if the students for children get the opportunity to investigate whatever is brought into the class by the teacher, they get motivated to ask different types of questions to the teacher and inquire about that thing. They also get very excited to complete their projects regarding the living thing and write down or share the knowledge they have gathered.
The field regarding environmental science help or emphasizes to understand the different and combined systems of the environment around us. The environmental science also helps to understand the effects of the action of human beings upon the environment.
If you want to know or learn about the basic things of environmental science then you can use the Environmental Science web guide. This will no doubt help you to get the updated information and news regarding this field. The students will get different resources that will benefit the learning process. These sources will help the children to learn about the subject better.
Environmental science is taught at a very early stage of school and it is a booming field for all young scientists of the future. To make this subject easier and comfortable to understand for students, many sites have been introduced.
One among them is the environmental science for kids who are designed appropriately to educate and help children to get the perfect knowledge of the basic concept. This site also helps higher school students to complete their projects and other assignments.
Some insights for Environmental Science for students.
- Different educational sites for students use some plug-in which helps in the working of different multimedia contents and a variety of games. Always visit the sites before the child visits them an adventure that all the software is available with you for their proper functioning.
- For high school students or children, there are different sites that offer project guidelines. These do not substitute for any original work that may help you by providing different information about the project you are indulged in.
- You may also get some recommended sites there but before entering the sites talk to the school teacher about any discounted class accounts or school accounts.
Some top sites if environmental science is:
- PBS Kids go
- EPA environmental kids club
- The globe program
- National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
- Ask a scientist is one of the wave pages of U.S
- CHP science education program
Environmental science is important in a number of things such as clarifying modern environmental concept including conservation of biodiversity, using natural resources more effectively and efficiently, knowing the behavior of different or organisms under conditions of nature, knowing the more suitable method of Living, developing a sensitive attitude today’s environmental issues.
How to make Environmental education part of the classroom routine.
Bring as much as creatures and plants inside the classroom. Young students will be able to connect to nature and interact with spider’s bugs tadpoles and slugs. Students must be taught how to respect and treat all the living while starting and knowing them. Trapping bugs and butterflies in the bottle and shaking the container and other sorts of mischief should be not allowed and discouraged.
Focus on some part of the environment
Many children’s had hardly any opportunities to understand nature. Like your enthusiasm for the scenery and being gentle for the surroundings, the people around you will also become enthusiastic.
Choose just one small feature of the background such as slugs, worms, squirrels, frogs or insects. Children become attentive to attitudes, their accountability towards the surroundings from beginning to end of the study of a one-minute section of it.
