The National Environmental Policy Act (also known as NEPA) is an environmental law of the United States of America. This organization helps in enhancing the environment. NEPA also established the CEQ (stands for President’s Council on Environmental Quality). On 1st January 1970, this law was approved. About 100 nations have approved this law to date. Prior to this the federations were goal oriented.

There are many ways by which humans create an impact on the environment. They include:

  • Overpopulation- which leads to havoc and tremendous problems.
  • Global warming- leading to heating up of the earth
  • Pollution- destroying the air around us
  • Genetic modification- causes threats to plants
  • Climate change-
  • Ocean acidification
  • Deforestation- meaning cutting down of trees.
  • Water pollution- leads to the loss of lives of water animals
  • Ozone depletion- this is a threat to making. Ozone depletion allows UV rays to enter the earth
  • Acid rain- is the cause of burning of sulfur dioxide and coal by humans.

Purpose of the policy

The purpose of the environmental policy act includes:

  • Declaration of national policy which will help in encouraging productive as well as enjoy peace and harmony between man and environment.
  • Promoting efforts to prevent or eradicate any type of damage to the biosphere and environment. And also for stimulating the welfare and health of human being

Main goals of the environmental policy are reducing the use of resources or reducing pollution in promoting human welfare. This will help in the protection of the natural system. The common people’s tragedy is basically the process by which the publicly used resources are made open for damage and are depleted because of overuse.

As the method of developing economy fastens in the financial system, the commands for ordinary possessions also increase. It turns out to be decisive that natural resources have to be utilized in a sensible way. This is done so that such possessions are not subjugated for short term profits but are used with no harm to the attention of upcoming generations.
