Effects Of Sound Pollution On The Global Warming

What Is Sound Pollution?

Sound pollution or noise pollution means propagation of the noise having the harmful impact on the life and activity of animal human. Sound pollution is also known as environmental noise. Outdoor sounds worldwide are mainly produced transport, transportation system, machines, and machinery, etc. And these are the sources of excess noise as well. Traffic is the major source of noise pollution in big cities and metropolitans. People staying within 4-5 Km radius of airports face the extreme noise pollution. Residential and industrial buildings also result in sound pollution in residential areas.Poor urban planning is yet another reason for noise pollution.According to some research, sound pollution is higher in racial minority and low-income neighborhoods.

Effects of sound pollution on humans and animals

If the noise level is higher than what we consider as normal that it may lead to cardiovascular effects and an increased level of coronary artery disease in humans. Sound pollution may also increase the risk of death in animals such as predators whose prey detection capability using sensory signals and avoidance capability of other animals get disturbed due to excess, unwanted external noise. Sound pollution may also interfere with the navigation and reproduction capability of animals and may lead to a permanent hearing loss in both humans and animals.

Does infrasound produced by wind turbines cause pollution?

Infrasound is that sound which has a frequency lower than the audible range for human beings. Hence we can’t hear that sound, but can sense it and it creates a feeling of uneasiness, heightened arousal, etc. But a lot of controversies has been running around that whether infrasound creates any sound pollution or not. Why are wind turbines made far from locality? Why are the residents near and around wind farms in the state of despair?

Actually, infrasound travels a long way, even much further than the sounds in our audible range. Then we must understand that it definitely affects the health of people in a wide range of area around the radius of the wind farm sites. Then should we stop building them or dismantle the existing ones? Then what will happen to our non-renewable sources of energy?

Hence these type of confusions will keep on going until some permanent solutions are found. Let us now focus whether sound pollution is related to global warming or not.

Is sound pollution related to global warming?

Some researchers suggest that sound pollution to some extent is caused due to global warming.  Just imagine what happens when hot water is poured over an ice cube. Before melting, it’ll first crack into several pieces which produce some sound. The same principle is applied to global warming causing sound pollution. When icebergs hit the warm water they start to crack which produces a large amount of noise which disturbs the marine life. Many types of research have suggested that the sound produced by breaking of an iceberg is similar to the sound produced by hundred supertankers. Just imagine, how much noise pollution is created due to global warming.
